Nature of Damage
The grub is stout (Fig. 1) and bores into the bark of the stem making circular holes and feeds on the living tissues of the inner bark.
The larvae bore through the sapwood and because of their size, these tunnels adversely affect foliage and fruit production (Fig. 2 & 3)
The presence of the insect can be detected from the chewed bark/frass thrown out of hole on a trunk.
Yellowing and shedding of leaves is early sign after infestation, which resulted into drying of terminal twigs and branches, and then gradual death of tree.
