Nature of Damage

  • The grub is stout (Fig. 1) and bores into the bark of the stem making circular holes and feeds on the living tissues of the inner bark. 
  • The larvae bore through the sapwood and because of their size, these tunnels adversely affect foliage and fruit production (Fig. 2 & 3) 
  • The presence of the insect can be detected from the chewed bark/frass thrown out of hole on a trunk. 
  • Yellowing and shedding of leaves is early sign after infestation, which resulted into drying of terminal twigs and branches, and then gradual death of tree.
