Saline and Alkali Soil

1. These soils are called as problem soils.
2. Occur in different parts of India, especially in the coastal regions of low lying areas.
3. They contain different proportion of salts including NaCl. They are harmful and do not permit normal crop growth.
4. Resistant Crops like coconut, ragi, rice (varieties) are cultivated in these soils.
5. Punjab and Haryana also contain saline and alkali soil.
6. Saline soils will have pH <8.5
