In vitro culture of hybrid embryos useful in cross combination where fertilization occurs and embryo begins to develop but degenerates prior to full maturity due to (i) Inability of endospern to carry out its normal role in supplying nutrients to developing embryos. (ii) The maternal tissue is antagonistic to the development of embryo. In other words embryo - culture is useful when the embryo has the ability to mature but is prevented from doing on where the shriveled seeds are obtained which do not germinate.
