Nature of damage:
------------------

• Caterpillars bore into tender shoots and fruits results in wilting of the shoot and affected fruits become deformed in shape and remain stunted in growth.
• Shedding of buds and flowers.
• Terminal shoots wither and droop.
• The damaged fruits become unfit for consumption and marketing.

Management :
------------

• Deep ploughing during summer to expose the pupae to scorching sunlight and predation by birds.
• Collect and destroy infested shoots, buds, flowers and fruits.
• Avoid cultivation of alternate hosts like Hibiscus cannabinus, H. abelmascus and Abutilon indicum.
• Setup pheromone traps @ 12/ha. Soil application with carbofuran @ 1 kg a.i./ha at the of time of sowing , thereafter at 10 days interval to protect fruits from damage.
• Release egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis @ 1, 00,000/ha.
• Release first instar larvae of C. carnea @ 1 lakh/ha. Spray B.t. 2 g / lit. Spray carbaryl 50% WP 2 g/lit.
