Usually 11-12 month old nuts are harvested. Coconuts are harvested at varying intervals in a year. The frequency varies depending upon the yield of palms. Usually, the nuts are harvested 6 to 10 times in a year. In well maintained and high yielding gardens, bunches are produced regularly and harvesting is done once in a month. Nuts which are 11 months old give fibre of good quality and can be harvested in the tracts where husk is utilized for manufacture of coir fibre. Skilled personnel are traditionally employed for climbing palms for harvesting nuts. Nowadays, lack of availability of skilled climbers for harvesting operations is a serious problem experienced by coconut farmers.
