Aphid (Aphis spp.):
------------------------

The aphid species Myzus persicae and Aphis gossypil attack chilli crop during early season of crop growth during the month of January-February. Release of lady bird beetles and hover fly reduce the aphid population to some extent.

Yellow mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus):
---------------------------------------
1. Symptoms

a. The mites attack the crop throughout the warm and humid period of the year starting from February to November under Bengal basin.
b. Young leaves usually curl downward in an inverted boat shaped manner, the texture of the leaves become leathery, lower surface turn shiny silvery whitish appearance which gradually become brownish and curl completely.
c. The apical shot gets crumpled, become rossetted and the growth of the plant is stunted. Infestation at the flowering stage causes bud and flower shedding resulting complete loss of yield.

2. Control measures

a. Save the plant from the early infestation of whitefly which help to disseminate yellow mite by spraying with imidacloprid @ 0.3 ml/l.
b. Select mite tolerant chili cultivars like PC-1, BCSI-4 and transplant during September-October to obtain maximum yield and desynchronizing the occurrence of mite.
c. Spray the crop with acaricides like dicofol @ 2.5ml/l; propergite @ 1.5 ml/l or diafenthiuron @ 1 ml/l during early budding stage of the crop at 15 days interval.
