IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT:

• During summer, apply irrigation at 4-5 days interval and during winter at 10-15 days interval.

• Critical stages of irrigation are flower development, fruit set and after each harvest.

• In indeterminate varieties and hybrids, fruit size can be increased and at same time disease problem can be checked be training and pruning the plants. Two or these strong basal stems are retained and all axillary branches on them are removed by disbudding, allowing only the main stems to grow and produce fruits.

• The plants are staked to avoid damage to fruit, the common practice being to stake individual plant provide support to plants in a now.

• Give two hands hoeing at 1st and 3rd fortnight after transplanting and do earthing up at 2nd fortnight after transplanting.

• Stop intercultural operations when the plants havestarted flowering.

• Regarding chemical weed control, a pre-planting treatment of pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha or Fluchoralin 1.25 kg ai/ha along with one hand hoeing 45 days after transplanting is effective.
