Plant tissue culture is the technique of growing plant cells, tissues and organs on an artificially prepared medium under aseptic and controlled conditions of temperature and light.

It is also called ‘in vitro culture’(Growing plants in glass vessels.

Tissue culture is based on theory of totipotency given by Haberlandt in 1902 for which he is considered as father of tissue culture. Totipotency is the capacity of cell to regenerate in to complete organism.
