Nature of Damage:
-----------------

Grub bore into pseudostem making tunnels. Cutting holes on outer surface. Exudation of plant sap initial symptom.
Blackened mass comes out from the bore hole. Tunneled part decomposes and pseudostem becomes weak and wilting of the plant is common.

Management:
-----------

Continuous monitoring in the field of banana, for marking the pest infestation from very beginning.
Select healthy rhizomes for planting. Proper disposal off the banana plant after harvesting.
Prepare trap for attracting adult by making 10 cm round pieces from the pseudo stem of banana. Use two pieces and put small stones between two pieces so that adult can easily enter in between them. 8 to 10 traps are recommended per hectare.
Spray chlorpyriphos @ 0.05 per cent for killing attracted adults. For chemical control, inject chlorpyriphos @ 0.05 per cent in the stem with the help of syringe or spraying of chlorpyriphos @ 0.05 % or spark 0.036 % or Neemazal 1 % at monthly interval starting from the age of 6 months.

Remove dried leaves periodically and keep the field clean. Prune the side suckers every month.
Use healthy and pest free suckers to check the pest incidence. Do not dump infested materials into manure pit.
Uproot infested trees, chop into pieces and burn.

Use longitudinally split pseudostem trap at 65/ha. Spray.
Application of Phorate or carbofuran @ 5 to 10 gram per plant in the pit prepared for planting.
