CULTURAL PRACTICES:
-----------------------

1. Chilli performs well in warm humid tropical and sub-tropical region.
2. A temperature range of 20-330C is optimum for chilli.
3. Low temperature at fruit ripening stage likely to delay colour development in the fruits.
4. Chilli grows best in a well-drained loam soil rich in organic matter.
5. The pH should be around 6.5 – 7.5.
6. Chilli performs well with a rainfall of 600-1200 mm spread over 4 to 5 months.
7. The crop prefers moderate sunshine, high relative humidity and drizzling rains during early establishment.

Flower and fruit drop:
----------------------------
1. Caused due to: i) low humidity and high temperature condition, ii) decreasing light intensity and iii) short day and during early flowering stages.

Control: Irrigation at flowering and fruit set stage reduces blossom and fruit drop, foliar application of 50 ppm NAA at full bloom stage.
