1) Pre-seasonal planting (Sara planting)
This planting is done in the month of October - November and duration is of 15 months.


2) Seasonal planting (Spring planting)
This planting is done in the month of January - February and duration is of 10-12 months.

3) Adsali planting
This planting is done in the month of June - July and duration is of 18 months. Adsali planting is not followed in Gujarat but this method is common in Maharashtra state.

In south Gujarat, planting is started from second fortnight of November and continue up to end of February. In Saurashtra region, December - January is optimum period for planting.

The results of an experiment on planting period indicated that November-December planting was found to be optimum. However, planting of cane from first fortnight of October to second fortnight of January has been found suitable for higher cane yield.

In middle Gujarat, variety CO-6304 should be planted from second week of December to second week of January and the crop should be harvested at 12 to 14 months. In South Saurashtra, the same variety should be planted in middle of November.
