Excess irrigation water reduced the grain yield so water should be filled in the field in relation to the stages of growth.

1) At transplanting 5-7 cm water depth
2) At tillering 4-5 cm water depth
3) From jointing stage to earhead emergence stage, crop requires more water. So filled water 8-10 cm depth. Under no case the surface of the field should be cracked during grain filling stage. Water should be drained out 8-10 days prior to grain maturity stage. Rice requires more water during life period so that it is also known as water loving plant.
