Banana can be grown in almost all types of soil provided adequate soil moisture is available. Deep, well drained, fertile, loamy soil with adequate organic matter is ideal for its cultivation. Shallow rooted crop, so depth & drainage are essential. Can grow in slight alkaline but not in saline soils.

Banana is well adapted to tropical climate in the warm and humid parts in Asia. Among the climatic variables, temperature, frost occurrence, light/solar radiation and rainfall distribution, relative humidity and wind velocity largely influence the growth morpho¬logy and productivity of banana. It Can grow in temp. range 10-40 0C. frost sensitive. Wind breaks necessary.
