Wilt

Wilt :

C. O.: Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. psidii

Symptoms:

• Browning and wilting of the leaves
• Infection girdles the entire stem and the whole plant may wilt.
• The leaves may fall off and the plant may die in a year or more.
• When an infected stem is cut open the tissues extending up to the cambium region display a dark colour.

Management:

• Disease intensity can be reduced by proper sanitary measures pruning and uprooting of witted plants.
• Pits for transplanting of
guava should be treated
with formalin (1 gallon in 100 l.)
• Drenching with benomyl or Carbendazim 20 g /10 lit water per plant
• Soil solarization before planting are also helpful in reducing the disease in new plantation.
• Use of bio-agents: Trichoderma lignorum, T. harzianum and Streptomyces chibaensis.

Stem Canker:
--------------
C.O.; Physalospora psidii

Symptoms:

• The fungus attacks the branches, forming cracks and lesion along the stem
• The affected branch wilts as the stem tissues are killed, arresting translocation of nutrients.
• The disease may spread from plant to plant by air-borne infections.

Management :
• The infected stem should be cut and destroyed and the cut-end painted with a Bordeaux paste.


Red rust

Red rust :

C. O. Puccinia psidii

Symptoms:

• Brown grey lesion on young shoots, leaves, flower buds and young fruits.

Management:

• Use resistant cultivars
• Weekly sprays such Mancozeb 0.20% or propicanozole0.025%.
