Nature of damage:

On hatching, larvae feed on leaf sheath by scrapping the tissues. Subsequently, the larvae bore into the tender cane crop.
The infested internodes suffer reduction in length and girth as compared to those in healthy canes and this is reflected in the two succeeding internodes also.

Management:

Collection of egg masses and their destruction.
Inundative release of the egg parasite Trichogramma australicum at 50,000 parasites/ ha/ week.
