Nature of damage:

The scale infests the internodes and spread gradually and may cover entire cane.
The nymph and adult female remain protected under the leaf sheath and suck juice from the stem and cause shriveling up and stunting of canes.
Sugar recovery adversely affected.
Purity of juice and quality of jaggery are also affected.
