IMPORTANCE OF CROP:

• The okra or lady`s finger, known as bhindi in India is an important vegetable in the tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world.
• In India, it is commonly grown in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa.
• Okra is mainly used for its tender green fruits as vegetable in many countries.
• The roots and stems are useful for clearing sugarcane juice in preparation of jaggaiy.
• Ripe seeds are roasted, ground and used as a substitute for coffee in Turkey.
• Crude fibre from dry fruits and stems are used in the paper industry and making cardboard.
• Dry seeds contain 13-22% edible oil and refined oil may be used as a substitute of common edible oil particularly cottonseed oil
• Oil from seeds is used in perfume industry.
• The seed cake is used as animal feed.
• In Far East countries like, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and
• Solomon Islands the species, A manihot is used as leafy vegetable.
