Soil Conditions: It requires sandy to sandy loam soil for early and good crop. The soil should be well drained. Alluvial riverbeds are also good for production of watermelon. The soil pH should be 6.5 to 7.0. Varieties Jobner 21 and Jobner 18-1 can be grown on high pH soils.

Climatic Requirements: It is a warm season crop. It can not tolerate high cold and frost It requires 18 °C minimum temperature for seed germination and 24-27 °C for growth and development of plant. For high quality fruit production, there should be high temperature at the time of ripening.
