In Gujarat, best time of sowing is sown in Jan –Feb and October - Nov.

Methods of Sowing and Spacing: Two to Three kg/ha seeds will be sufficient to sow one hectare. The sowing may be done on raised beds, furrows, trenches or pits. The commercial crop is generally sown directly. Two seeds per hill on both sides of raised bed or furrow and 3-4 seeds per hill in case of riverbed trenches. In case of pit method, pits of size 15 x 15 cm dug at recommended row and plant spacing and filled with farmyard manure and soil in equal proportions. Now a days, plug tray nursery has tremendous role for watermelon cultivation too. The recommended spacing is 2 x 1 or 3.4 x 1.0 x0.6 m for pair row.
