Field should be deeply ploughed, harrowed, leveled and then plan of layout should be think out.
Mango graft should be purchased from reputed or Government Nursery before 15 days of planting. The best time for planting is during the monsoon when the atmosphere is more humid. The area in which rainfall is less June-July is the best period of planting; while rainfall is high the planting should be made after a spell of heavy rain is over i.e. July to September.
Spacing:
It depends on many factors like, growing habit of tree, nature of soil, irrigation facilities and nature of climate and agronomical practices.
If the growth is luxuriant then there should be wider spacing but if there are any factors limiting then it should be advisable to plant by narrow spacing.
Normal Planting 10x10 mt. - 100 plants/ha,
Hegde row planting 10x5 mt. – 200 plants/ha,
High density planting 5x5 mt. – 400 plants/ha,
Ultra high density planting 3x2 mt or 3x1 mt – 1666 or 3333 plants/ha,
Digging of pits:
In prepared land 3x3x3 feet size pit should be dug out in summer month and should kept open for at least 15 days before rainy season. Half of the soil of above portion from pit should be kept seperatley and mix with 50 kg FYM + 2.5 kg Super phosphate and 1 kg Murate of Potash + 50 gm Carbofuran. One stick for support should be fixed in the pit. After first rain graft should be planted with root ball attached. The fit should bi fill up to 6” above the ground level.
Some important points should be kept in mind at the time of planting:
1. Graft/ seedling should be planted during cloudy weather and afternoon time.
2. Pot should be carefully being removed without disturbing the ball of earth.
3. Graft joint should remain above ground level.
4. At planting scion branch should be in south direction (opp. to wind direction) though the no effect of wind.
5. Planting should be exactly in the middle of pit.
6. Plant should be staked with strong support.
7. The soil around the plant should be thoroughly pressed.
8. Strong fence should be done around the plantation to protect the orchard from grazing animals,
9. If there is no rain after planting immediately irrigate the plant.
10. Stock plants should be cut away above the joint after well establishment.
11. Remove the threads (string) after establishing the grafted.
