Irrigation after fruit set to maturity favors the fruit size and prevents fruit drop. Generally intervals between two irrigation should be kept 15 to 20 days except rainy days.
Generally no watering is done during monsoon. First two years irrigation should be done weekly during summer and winter season or as an when required.
For next three years it will be slightly longer and after five years mango tree star bearing.
For obtaining good flowering one must stop the irrigation at least 2 to 3 months before flowering period. Irrigation during the flowering checks the flowering and support for new growth.
During flowering do not give the irrigation. It will cause the new flush instead of flowering. One irrigation should be provided before two months of probable flowering and next one or two irrigation are given when the fruits reach to pea size. It will help in checking the fruit drop and also helps in increasing the fruit size.
In the region of heavy rainfall generally there is no need of irrigation because the tree itself has a hardy nature and deep root system.
